The tours will give people living in or visiting Peebles the chance to discover the remarkable stories of the 46 men and women who died in the First and Second World Wars including members of the Polish Forces stationed in and around Peebles during WW2. Gain an insight into the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, past and current, local and global. The tour will allow visitors to hear the stories of individual pilots, soldiers, sailors and a nursing sister. The cemetery also contains a small plot, a special section set aside in the cemetery for the war dead, and the tour gives visitors an opportunity to learn how these particular areas are cared for, both in Peebles and elsewhere.
The tour lasts approx. 90 mins and covers about 1000 metres on paths and grass on uneven ground. There is wheelchair access but it will require going over grass.
Parking available in Neidpath car park just off the A72 next to the cemetery. There are no facilities, public toilets are available in the park opposite during the summer months. Please bring water if required.
Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
No dogs are allowed in the cemetery.
Please note there can be last minute cancellations. This can be due to various reasons including illness, site issues and weather. We will email you as soon as we can, but this could include the morning of the tour, so please check your emails prior to leaving for the tour.
The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) aims to actively engage all communities with the work of the CWGC by telling the inspiring stories through education and outreach projects.
The CWGF is an independent charity registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales (1171947) and Scotland (SC051982).
