About this Event

Join the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for a free tour of Ormskirk (St Anne) RC Churchyard, led by students from the University of Lancashire

Our tours are free to the public, but if you would like to support us then please consider donating to our charity The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF).

https://foundation.cwgc.org/donate/

MEETING POINT is at the top of the stairs to the front of the church.

Join us as we talk about the stories of those buried at St Annes. There are 35 war dead buried here, a mixture of WW1 and WW2 soldiers. Interestingly, at this churchyard there are 26 Polish soldiers buried , and only one female soldier from the ATS. We will be exploring these soldiers in detail, providing context for the Polish in WW2, exploring the works of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, and talking about the war hospital that sat on Edge Hill's campus.

The war dead buried here are extremely interesting, and this graveyard offers an amazing diversity of stories of these brave soldiers.

There are 3 tours on the day, the last one will be Korean friendly. The student will be happy to deliver some of the tour in Korean and answer any questions.

The tours last approx. 60 mins and is on paths, gravel and grass with uneven ground, steps and slopes.

Limited parking is available on site. There are no on-site facilities and toilets. Please bring water if required.

Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.

Only assistance dogs are allowed in the cemetery.

Please note there can be last minute cancellations. This can be due to various reasons including illness, site issues and weather. We will email you as soon as we can, but this could include the morning of the tour, so please check your emails prior to leaving for the tour

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) aims to actively engage all communities with the work of the CWGC by telling the inspiring stories through education and outreach projects.

The CWGF is an independent charity registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales (1171947) and Scotland (SC051982).
