Placemaking is the process of shaping public spaces so they become meaningful, usable, and inclusive places for the people who live in and use them. Placemaking is supposed to be about community—but what happens when the language used to shape places excludes the very people who live there? This talk explores how jargon, public meetings, and design processes can unintentionally shut people out, and why truly livable places depend on making participation accessible to everyone.
