“on earthing and petrichor” positions the natural world as a space of respite, rooting, recuperation and regrowth. This space of aliveness creates a lush site of personal and political growth; amidst the rise of fascistic violence, pandemics, economic distress, climate change, anti-intellectualism and individualism. In contrast to a low-trust society experienced by many in the West, the natural world models a symbiotic and thriving ecosystem. How does a connection to nature engender a belief in a better world, and in doing so, inspire us to reconnect and build alongside each other? “on earthing and petrichor” is a multidisciplinary group exhibition featuring the work of Kristi Chen, Oreka James, Phuong Nguyen, Chiedza Pasipanodya, Deepikah RB, Erica Whyte and Jenny Vong; curated by Roya DelSol.
Roya DelSol (b. 1990) is curator & lens-based artist currently living and working in T’karonto. Her curatorial practice centers art-making as a form of knowledge transfer within cultural communities, informed by ancestral spiritual practices and ways of knowing. She is drawn to the sharp, chaotic possibilities of disruption in both the social and natural world; and the aliveness that fuels, infiltrates and subsumes it.
The exhibition "on earthing & petrichor" runs until April 12th. Gallery Hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 11am - 5pm. We hope to see you soon!
