About this Event

The Culture and Technology Book club brings readers together once a month to discuss new and classic texts that raise important questions about the way technology transforms our cultural and political lives. The group will read on relevant topics related to social media, innovation, surveillance and infrastructure.

When: Friday, October 11 @ 7:00pm

Where: North York Central Library (5120 Yonge Street, Toronto), eLearning Lab (2nd floor)

Theme: Management

This month we will read: by Frederick Winslow Taylor (1913)

We’ll look at the role of management in technological contexts and consider management itself as a kind of technology. To jump off on this subject, we’ll take a closer look at the influential writing of Frederick Winslow Taylor. We will consider the legacy of management literature in shaping our very concept of the “workplace” right up to the present.

Bonus Readings:

Edward Tufte on “Chart Junk”

Cory Doctorow on “Bossware”

Registration is encouraged. Drop-ins welcome. Book your ticket through Eventbrite.
