A young Marie Antoinette (Academy Award nominee Kirsten Dunst), the daughter and youngest child of Holy Roman Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, is sent to marry the Dauphin of France (Jason Schwartzman). She later becomes the countries queen following the death of King Louis XV (Academy Award nominee Judy Davis) in 1774, leading a life of luxury and pleasure that quickly becomes overtaken by revolution.
