On Sunday 30 March, Cuculi presents our new favourite songwriter Séamus Óg upstairs at The Greenbank, with support from spellbinding local artist Ruby Geddes.
Hailing from Ireland via Manchester, Séamus Óg writes beguiling songs that sit somewhere between trad-inspired fingerpicked folk and the swift dexterity of jazz. He performs with a trio of tightly knit musicians on harp, cello, double bass and effortless harmony vocals, pulling lush textures out of the playful unpredictability of his music. We fell in love with Séamus' music as soon as we heard it, and we have no doubt that our community of enthusiastic Bristol listeners will love it too.

SÉAMUS ÓG
Séamus Óg is an emerging force within the contemporary folk scene, drawing deeply from his family’s rich musical heritage and strong Irish roots. Raised in a household where music was as essential as the air they breathed, Séamus’s songs are a tapestry of stories, traditions, and connections to home.
His 2018 debut album, Best Masala Tea, offered an intimate, raw sound—just guitar, double bass, and his voice. Praised on the acclaimed podcast Tangentially Speaking by Dr. Christopher Ryan. With his album 'Terry’s Síbín' (2022), Séamus expanded his palette, joined by harpist Anna McLuckie (clársach) and Awen Blandford (Cello). The album earned airplay on BBC 6 Music (Tom Robinson), Celtic FM, and Radio Fáilte, and his powerful live performances have seen him share stages with artists like Chris Brain, Brìghde Chaimbeul, Ríoghnach Connolly & Honeyfeet, and Mikey Kenney.
March 25 marks the release of his much-anticipated third album, ‘Haul The Pots’. This project is a love letter to his roots, exploring disability, sectarianism, the ebb and flow of love, and the longing for home.

RUBY GEDDES
Ruby Geddes started recording and performing in Edinburgh. Whilst immersed in the city's thriving traditional folk scene, and captivated by its rich geological history, they began to write music inspired by the genre’s ability to connect people across time and call to a deep sense of home. They sought to extend this to the more-than-human world. Now beginning to settle into the eclectic alt-folk scene of Bristol, Geddes continues to craft contemporary folk that speaks to their kinship with the natural world – solace found in cycles of minerals, light, growth and decay, in eternal change and deep time; their songs grieve and resolve with the seasons. An inquisitive musical topography forms the ground for enthralling lyrics as soft, easeful vocals invite you to travel with them across a range of low tunings, changing time signatures, and diverse song structures.
Intricate finger-style guitar parts are formed around melody lines in much of Ruby’s original song-writing, evocative of Nick Drake and Hayley Heynderickx, whilst their banjo playing is informed by gentler, stripped-back Old Time stylings of Anna and Elizabeth, Nora Brown, Karen Dalton and Jake Xerxes Fussel.

CUCULI RECORDS
Cuculi Records is a DIY label based in Bristol, run by a woman-led collective of musicians and songwriters with the aim of helping grassroots artists navigate the complexities of releasing music independently. We work with bedroom composers, folk singers, ambient explorers and unusual ensembles, often creating beautiful sounds that don't have a name yet.
Cuculi Presents is an opportunity to hear both local & national artists live in listening spaces around Bristol.
