Crux AV – Sunday 7 December 2025New River Studios, north London
Join us for the second of our autumn/winter series of performance showcase events for both established and emerging electronic music and video artists.
PIURSO
Unruly offspring of the Aveiro Arts House creative ecosystem, Piurso is a collaboration between sound artist / culture programmer Hugo Branco (PT) and designer / visual artist Mark Cameron (UK), based on the live manipulation of modular synths and original video.
Using live audiovisuals as both an hedonist indulgence and a form of protest, the fierce and immersive show blends sound elements from exploratory music, rave culture, dub, bass and noise, while the trashy 8-bit video inspires insurgency and critical thought.
Premiered in June 2024 at the Serralves contemporary art museum, in Porto, and shortly after at 180 Creative Lab, during early 2025 the project was in residency at Largo Residências and Oficinas do Convento. The resulting live show was presented in June 2025 at the Cidade Preocupada festival (Montemor-o-Novo), Passos Manuel (Porto), Desterro (Lisbon), K.O.T., (Palmela) and VIC Aveiro Arts House (Aveiro).
With a full-length beat tape under production for early 2026, Piurso has released tracks in two compilations: “Rajada - Windy Sounds from Aveiro” and “From Chronos to Kairos”, also featuring artists such as Felicia Atkinson, Coldcut, Kate Carr and KMRU.
ALIEN ALARMS (with Becky Boo VJ)
Since combining breakbeats, field recordings and 19th century words on the album “0 To 1”, Alien Alarms have explored the threats and uses of AI on “Android Dreams” and activism and despair on “Utopia Or Dystopia?”. Alien Alarms have released music on the Patchworks, Stresshead and Spirit Of Gravity labels, been played on Steve Lamacq's show on BBC 6 Music and played live across the UK. Alien Alarms’ music has been described as “exciting, futuristic and original” by Neil March, “motivation for fighting for a better future ... and the start of a party” by MangoWave music magazine, "The best kind of mindf**k" by Simon Yorkshire and “continuing to push the envelope” by BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson.

ISN’TSES
Isn’tses are harsh fun duo Lisa McKendrick and Tim Drage. Using a diverse arrangement of hardware, their DAWless setup is made up of their own self-designed synths and modules together with Octatrack and Game Boys. They create a semi-improvised set of electronic beats and light saber mayhem and generate a live sonic eruption of musical genres, encompassing dance music, aggressive vocals, techno rave, psytrance, noise,
metal, and industrial influences. For their visual set up they use a blend of 8-bit glitch art, esoteric text and video feedback, embracing the technical constraints of obsolete machines.
They are the creators of noise synths Chernobylizer, Chernobyletta, Fort Processor and most recently Dark Harvestator.
Isn’tses have performed recently at Kiyasu Fest, Farsight Gallery, clubGLOB, CRUX, Alphabet Brighton, Renaissance Alternative Music Festival, Circuit Control Dresden, Gate
Festival UK, C.Rockefeller Centre for the Contemporary Arts, Mayhem Night, Spanners, Electropixel Festival, Hut Raw Power Festival, DISSOLVING BOUNDARIES, Sonic Electronics Festival, Hackoustic Presents, coding in GE> , Fort Process Festival, Baba Yaga's Hut New Years EEE Party, Liminality Gallery 46, No Format Gallery, Festival Bergerie #3, France, Modern Panic VIII, Dronica, Woodland Gathering, Bunker Theatre, SOTU Festival Amsterdam.
