Litt om Cronin:
Michael and Johnny Cronin are a dynamic songwriting and music production duo from Drumlish, County Longford, Ireland. They have been releasing music since 2006 and have since established themselves as influential figures in the Irish music scene. Known for their evocative sound and dedication to their craft, the Cronin brothers have achieved both critical and commercial success.
They release and record with Brian Murphy and Fiachra Milner as Cronin.
Under their initial moniker The Aftermath, the duo gained significant recognition, achieving a top-ten and two top-twenty hits on the Irish Singles Chart with releases through their independent label, Live Transmission Records. As Cronin, they have expanded their artistic vision, producing one critically acclaimed full-length album, The First Kiss of Love, a mini-album, A View From the Next Room (released during the 2020 lockdown), and several well-received standalone singles.
Their music has received airplay across national and international platforms, including Today FM, RTÉ Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, and XFM, with support from influential broadcasters like Paul McLoone, John Creedon, Dermot O’Leary, and Steve Lamacq. The Cronins have also made frequent television appearances, including performances on The Late Late Show, The Last Broadcast, and Saturday Night with Miriam O’Callaghan.
Their collaborative work with iconic artists further underscores their impact. They served as musical directors for the Shane MacGowan Late Late Show Special in 2019, assembling a band that included members of The Pogues, Glen Hansard, and Lisa O’Neill. They’ve also performed at high-profile events such as Shane MacGowan’s wedding (alongside Johnny Depp) and funeral (with Nick Cave), and appeared in Julien Temple’s acclaimed documentary A Crock of Gold.
Beyond live performance, Cronin’s production work has drawn in luminaries like Steve Wickham (The Waterboys), BP Fallon, Mark Greaney (JJ72), and Shane MacGowan himself. The duo has also contributed to cultural initiatives, composing original soundscapes for the Faoin Spéir program in partnership with the Arts Council of Ireland and Longford County Council. Their works have been central to large-scale events like the Longford Lights Festival, which attracted over 12,000 attendees in 2023.
Renowned for their “invigorating mix of Nick Cave, Echo & The Bunnymen, and classic British guitar bands” (Hot Press), Michael and Johnny Cronin are celebrated for their atmospheric, melody-driven sound. Their live performances have captivated audiences at major festivals such as Electric Picnic and Vestrock (Netherlands), while their passion for songwriting continues to evolve, fueled by a deep reverence for their influences and a commitment to pushing creative boundaries.
