August 3-6 | 12:00-3:00pmThis creative writing workshop introduces students to foundational storytelling and writing skills through guided lessons, hands-on writing activities, and structured creative exercises. Students will work step-by-step through the writing process as they create their own original short story in a supportive classroom environment.
Throughout the week, students will explore important creative writing concepts including character development, plot structure, setting creation, dialogue, sequencing, descriptive language, and story organization. Lessons are designed to help students strengthen written communication skills while encouraging creativity and confidence in expressing ideas.
Students will participate in guided brainstorming activities, writing prompts, drafting sessions, editing practice, and collaborative discussions to help organize and develop their stories from beginning to end. Instruction focuses on building strong storytelling habits while making the writing process approachable and engaging for young learners.
In addition to writing, students may also create illustrations and simple book cover designs to support visual storytelling and book presentation skills.
By the end of the course, each student will complete a finished story draft to take home. Families will also have the option to purchase a professionally printed bound copy of their student’s completed work as a keepsake.
This is a structured instructional language arts class focused on creative writing, storytelling development, and guided workshop-based learning, not a childcare or free-play program.
