This single booing is for a two part course taking place on THURSDAY 26TH MARCH & 2ND APRILJoin Jaimie for a relaxed, hands-on two part workshop focused on creating abstract paintings through texture, mark making, and intuitive use of colour. Over two weeks, you’ll explore how to build richly textured surfaces using a variety of mediums and tools, then develop these surfaces into expressive abstract paintings using acrylic
paint.
This workshop is designed to encourage exploration and experimentation. In the first session, the focus is on creating textured bases and expressive marks without the pressure of finishing a painting. These works are then left to dry and cure before being brought back for the second session, where you’ll layer paint over texture,
explore colour relationships, and allow your paintings to evolve organically.
The emphasis throughout the workshop is on process, curiosity, and developing confidence with abstraction. The pieces created are approached as a small series of studies or experiments, rather than finished or “perfect” works. This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those with some painting experience who would like to loosen up their approach and explore new ways of working.
Course Structure
Each session lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes, including clean-up time at the end of the session. The structure allows sufficient drying time between sessions so that textured surfaces can fully cure before painting.

During this session, you will:
Explore a range of texture mediums commonly used in abstract ar
Learn how to choose appropriate texture mediums for different painting surfaces
Experiment with mark-making techniques using texture mediums and a variety of tools
Consider how to plan and layer a textured abstract base
Create 2 or more small textured pieces, which will be left unpainted to dry and cure ready for Session 2 – please be prepared to take these home with you until the next session.
Session 2 – Painting on a Textured Base
During this session, you will:
Select a limited colour palette to create a cohesive abstract painting
Explore how to build layers of acrylic paint over textured surfaces

Add colour and optional metallic accents to highlight raised areas and texture
Reflect on how texture influences colour, movement and depth in abstract painting

2 completed abstract works developed from textured bases (more if you prefer)
A practical understanding of texture and mark-making techniques
Increased confidence working intuitively with abstraction
Tools and approaches that can be applied to future paintings
