About this Event
These events will be of particular interest to those who may not have an advanced background in science, but are keen to discover more about the exciting research happening at the Crick.
The first lecture in the series will be with Gerard Evan, Group Leader for the Cancer Biology Laboratory at the Crick. His Lab is connected to Cancer Research UK, studying a specific set of proteins found to be working incorrectly, or not at all, in almost all human cancers. This lecture will consider that cancer isn’t the monster we sometimes perceive it to be, and can be understood as a software problem. When a cell stops working, it needs to be reprogrammed. Simply put, Gerard's Lab want to understand what causes cancer and how can we fix it.
Gerard has been focused on academia throughout his entire career, based between the UK and California. He joined the Crick in 2022 from the University of Cambridge, where he was Sir William Dunn Professor of Biochemistry and Head of the Department of Biochemistry. Gerard remains connected to Cambridge, and is also affiliated with Kings College London.
