About this Event
Fashion Business School, London College of Fashion secured funding from the British Council and the EU to support the delivery of a programme that matched Sri Lankan crafters with European brands. Research conducted suggested that the Sri Lankan craft industry was under threat as Sri Lanka’s craft sector faced major knowledge gaps and declining participation, particularly from the young. It was identified that innovation, collaboration and education offered vital opportunities to revitalise skills, empower artisans and unlock sustainable growth, so in collaboration with The Institute of Future Creatives, London College of Fashion ran an educational programme to fill those knowledge gaps and to encourage innovation through collaboration. Thanks to the delivered programme, selected Sri Lankan artisans have collaborated with selected EU brands to collaboratively create collections. Those brands involved have seen sustainable national and international growth.
This is an opportunity to learn about the collections exhibited and to gain context of the Crafting Futures: Sri Lanka exhibition, ahead of the Launch Event planned for 20th Jan 26 at 17.30.
