Beeswax is naturally sterile and able to block out moisture, so the beehive is naturally clean and safe. Bees have always known these qualities and in ancient Egypt this magical substance was used to embalm pharaohs keeping their bodies for eternal life. In ancient Rome, the wax was used to preserve the fruits of the summer, as the harvest was not only valuable but also necessary to sustain through the winter.
This Crafternoon we will return to the beautiful old barn in Sundholm – Laden, where our guest host will show us how to create new wrappings out of old fabric and wax from the bees to preserve the things we want to keep and cherish.
Or perhaps you wish to preserve something else? A secret, a hope for the future, a message to the bees or someone else?
Bring a scrap of fabric suitable for wrapping, a flower or something else beautiful to symbolize your desired keeping. From this we will make a collective pile for sharing.
We will bring tea and coffee to the barn, but your favourite snack are much welcome.
Bring a friend or loved one.
