EVENT DETAILS
Release the Gowns is a theatrical variety show written by Outcalls and featuring brand-new music from their record Greatest Hits, vol. 1. Celebrate the journey of Britt Olson-Ecker and Melissa Wimbish's friendship, bandleading partnership, and their continuing survival of the patriarchy, spanning over a decade of collaboration. Directed by Genevieve de Mahy of Single Carrot Theatre and joined by an all-star band, Release the Gowns will leave you heavy breathing.
The vocal pop duo has been dubbed the “electronic opera queens” of Baltimore. Led by Britt Olsen-Ecker and Melissa Wimbish, both classically trained musicians, Outcalls creates genre-defying pop music that counters the tired narratives pervading much of today’s pop. With compelling performances and songs that feature melodic and harmonic surprises, their voices can “tickle your ear hairs one second and shake your teeth the next” (David William, The Bulletin). Masterful sopranos fuse into lush harmonies that easily translate from the operatic stage to bandstands and radio waves.
