Course: Negotiation for Humanitarian Executives (26003)

In humanitarian work, negotiation is a core skill. Whether securing access to affected areas, aligning with local authorities, or advocating for protection, your ability to negotiate effectively impacts outcomes on the ground.

This two-day immersive workshop is designed to strengthen the negotiation capability of humanitarian professionals through structured learning, simulation-based practice, and facilitated reflection.

By the end of the course, we will:

• Negotiation principles specific to humanitarian contexts
• Planning and stakeholder mapping (including BATNA and SMART objectives)This is a practice-based course with real-world examples and peer learning.
• Understanding power dynamics and ethical dilemmas
• Building trust across diverse actors (government, NGOs, communities)
• Active listening and the art of questioning
• Navigating trade-offs while upholding humanitarian principles
• Debriefing negotiations for continuous learning

You'll leave with the tools to engage in humanitarian negotiations with confidence, purpose, and ethical clarity.
