Courage Lab investigates artists' impact on change. This masterclass introduces Artist as Changemaker Card for practical solutions.
About this Event

Courage Lab offers opportunities for Toronto's arts communities to examine issues concerning equity, race, reconciliation and anti-oppression through workshops and gatherings.

On April 23, 2024, Courage Lab will launch with a one-hour masterclass. Facilitated by Skye Louis, the masterclass will focus on examining the role of artists as catalysts of change, investigating how creative exploration can provide solutions to social issues fundamental in change-making efforts.

Participants will gather in-person with facilitators to test and learn from peers. Additionally, participants will have access to one-on-one consultation sessions, if needed, with Skye Louis, to delve deeper into the material.

Skye Louis will be leading the session virtually, while all participants will join in-person.

Central to our session is the introduction of the Artist as Changemaker Card—an innovative tool born from a Calgary-based initiative that connects artists with organizations addressing complex societal challenges. This resource empowers artists and collaborative groups to establish common ground, ignite inspiration, and conceive impactful solutions.

This masterclass will be an engaging opportunity to learn the use of the Artist as Changemaker Card resource as a practical tool and discover its applications within your social practice. The Artist as Changemaker Card will be available on the Neighbourhood Arts Network website as a complimentary downloadable resource for self-printing, with a limited number of full-color printed decks provided exclusively for workshop participants.

Location: Innovation Studio at The Creative School at 110 Bond Street. 2nd Floor.

Doors Open: 12:00pm.

Light lunch will be provided.
