About this Event
The Salisbury Centre is offering a community therapies day once a month to make therapies more accessible to everyone! I am offering somatic experiencing on this day. I am also offering a further session a month, so there will be two offerings of somatic experiencing a month.
There is a suggested donation of £5 for the community therapy days.
As I am offering somatic experiencing twice a month, I will have a sliding scale so you can pay what you can afford, between £5- £30 per session.
Refunds can be given if you give 48 hours notice, (minus eventbrite fees)
New clients are required to complete a client form prior to this session.
*Please note: Unsuitable for those who are currently pregnant (unless you just want an introductory information session to discuss SE)
Not all sessions will be on the ground floor, so please let us know if you have any accessibility needs. The front door is wheelchair accesible and the toilet has grip rails. If you have any specific accessibility needs please email [email protected] and me at [email protected]
Please ring the bell at the front door and I will let you in a few minutes before your session.
Please read more about me and what I am offering below, keeping in mind that this session will be 1:1, not in a group, and can be done as a once off introduction to SE (with no commitment- just see if it's a good fit for you!) or progressed with in further SE sessions.
Your session will last 50 minutes.
Your first session will involve getting to know you and why you are interested in SE, some learning about SE and a small practice of SE. If you are interested in further sessions, just let me know afterwards :)
*This is not 'somatic movement', which is a different form of SE.
*Timing: There is availability for 19.00-19.50 and 20.00-20.50. Please let me know which time slot suits you.

My name is Mikayla and I am a somatic experiencing (SE) student looking to offer this trauma-informed practice to those wanting to learn more about how our nervous systems work and affect our lives. I have been training in SE for the last three years whilst also working in a range of healthcare settings, integrating a more trauma-informed approach into my practice.
With a background in mental health nursing and a belief in accessible mental healthcare, I am delighted to be a part of the Salisbury Centre’s Community Therapy programme. I would be delighted to welcome you into the beautiful setting that is unique to the Salisbury Centre, which is completely conducive to the work we will be doing in the somatic experiencing sessions.
What is SE?
SE is a bodywork practice that aims to release trauma held in the body. Trauma is due to our systems being overwhelmed. Most people will have experienced many traumas in their lives- some big, some little, which may still be affecting us. If you feel trauma has been holding you back in life and are interested in a mindful, body-first approach to trauma resolution, please get in touch, and understand that even the little traumas and moments of overwhelm may also be important and need some attention! You do not need to have experienced a 'big trauma' to benefit from SE.
In SE we look at the sensations underneath our feelings and uncover habitual patterns to these feelings. SE facilitates the safe completion of self-protective motor responses of the body. We work with small elements of your ‘story’ (what you have come in with, or what has shown up), noticing how your body (nervous system) responds, titrating these small activations gently. Our bodies learn to self-regulate in a safe and supported space as we now have the time and support to renegotiate a trauma without inducing overwhelm by working slowly.
SE aims to improve nervous system regulation, increase resiliency, improve awareness of the mind-body connection, strengthen boundaries and develop a genuine sense of safety through valuing and encouraging meeting individual needs, noticing what’s supportive/calming, reducing over-responsive threat-responses e.g hypervigilance. Moreover, it can help us to improve our connection with ourselves, the world around us and others.
If you feel you have unresolved trauma that you would like to renegotiate with compassion and a deeper understanding for how your body did the best it could at the time with the resources it had, SE may be helpful. As a complementary therapy, SE can be used as part of a holistic approach to your wellbeing, meaning other therapies and treatments can be used in conjunction.
