The Mental Health and Psychosocial Response to Humanitarian Crises
Humanitarian crises—whether natural disasters, armed conflict, or displacement—pose profound challenges not only to physical safety, but also to mental health. From the ongoing war in Gaza to other emergencies around the globe, these situations underscore how psychological support is too often treated as a luxury when, in fact, it is essential, lifesaving first aid. This session will highlight how preparedness, early intervention, and culturally grounded approaches can and must be integrated into humanitarian response. Experts will share strategies for stabilizing individuals, supporting frontline workers, and building local capacity, enabling communities to recover with dignity, resilience, and collective healing.
Created in partnership with the Archewell Foundation.
