The Consone Quartet—the first period-instrument quartet to be named BBC New Generation Artists—will offer a classical start to the 101st season of Concerts from the Library of Congress. Opening with the first of the “Apponyi” quartets from 1793, Consone will perform Haydn at the height of his command of the string quartet. Celebrated keyboardist Kristian Bezuidenhout returns to the Library to join the Consone Quartet at the fortepiano, performing music by Mozart composed a decade before the Haydn. The first is a piano concerto in a guise authorized by Mozart himself for keyboard and string quartet, followed by an arrangement that Ernst Naumann made in the nineteenth century of Mozart’s quintet for piano and winds. E perience Mozart’s music filtered through historical lenses, enabling us to hear the old anew. TICKET INFORMATION
