Are you missing touch in your life?
One of the most important parts of being human is the need for physical contact. Most of us are familiar with the experience of “skin hunger,” whether or not we were even aware it had a name. It's a deep longing and aching desire for physical contact with another person. Touch is considered the first sense we acquire and our skin is our largest sensory organ. While we tend to think of intimate touch as a strictly sexual experience, skin hunger is mostly a longing for non-sexual touch.(which is what we will be focusing on in this workshop)
Positive Health Manifestations from Touch:
The benefits of physical touch, and the biological releases that come with it, go beyond social bonding and can manifest positively in your mental and physical health. Here are some major ways being open to more hugs and hand holding can increase your happiness and longevity.
Inspire positive thinking and expand trust. Known as the “feel good” hormone, oxytocin helps inspire positive thinking and maintaining an optimistic outlook on the world. The role of oxytocin for bonding also extends to helping generate feelings of compassion during interactions. This can contribute to an expansion of trust among individuals during social situations.
•Reduce social anxiety and stress
Physical touch increases levels of dopamine and serotonin, two neurotransmitters that help regulate your mood as well as help your body relieve stress and anxiety. Dopamine is also known to regulate the pleasure centre in your brain that is a good counter to feelings of anxiety.
•Boost immune system and lower blood pressure
Physical touch is known to improve the function of your immune system as well as reduce diseases such as those associated with the heart and blood.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE WORKSHOP:
This workshop will address the importance of physical touch by staying rooted to ourselves and connecting to others in a deep and satisfying way. We will then all take turns to rotate and partner up with other attendees to work on Connecting Touch which is platonic touch that is carried out within a boundaried, safe setting and is meant to regulate and calm down the nervous system.
BENEFITS OF ATTENDING:
As a Healer and Intuitive Healing Coach I am running this workshop of Connecting Touch so that attendees can get informed on the importance of getting their touch needs met, and what to do if that is not always possible. We will be putting Connecting Touch into practise. Unlike the regularly run Barefoot in the Park Connecting Touch group sessions that happen outdoors in the park this workshop will be sensory based(as much use of sight, smell, touch, taste and sound as possible)and run indoors.
