Info: Fran Hegarty is a Clinical Engineer with extensive experience in applying and supporting healthcare technology at
the point of care in public hospitals in Ireland. His research interests include Healthcare Technology Management, Clinical Measurement & Informatics, and Art in Health. He retired from the position of Chief Physicist for Children’s Health Ireland in 2023 but continues to lecture on clinical engineering and clinical informatics topics. Fran is also a sonic artist & music maker. He is currently studying for an M.Phil in Music & Media Technology at Trinity College Dublin.

Connecting the ICU - An Integrations Perspective

Info: Chief Clinical Engineering Lead for Critical Care IT within the HSE’s Technology & Transformation Department. He is currently working on the national rollout of a Critical Care Information System (CCIS) to Model 3 & 4 hospitals where the infrastructure is not yet in place. This five-year strategic program spans 18 ICU sites across five health regions & will support approximately 70 critical care beds. With over 20 years of experience in clinical engineering across both public & private sectors, Gerry’s technical expertise spans many areas including anaesthesia, patient monitoring, ultrasound & clinical networking technologies. His work focuses on advancing patient care & streamlining clinical operations through integration of medical devices and IT systems. He holds a Master of Science in Clinical Engineering & is currently pursuing further studies in Healthcare Analytics at Atlantic Technological University (ATU), enhancing his ability to lead data-informed solutions in healthcare.

Moninne is the Chief Ph*rm*cy Information Officer for Children’s Health Ireland. In this role she leads the digital transformation of Medic*tion use processes and Ph*rm*cy operations through the implementation and optimisation of health information technology. As a Fulbright TechImpact 2022-2023 Scholar, she partnered with St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis TN to inform and optimise the implementation of Medic*tion systems into Ireland’s new children’s hospital. Moninne has a PhD in the area of Medic*tion Safety and Health Information Technology and is
the project lead on the National Paediatric and Neonatal Smart-Pump project driving the standardisation of infusion practices and use of smart-pump technology across Irish acute hospital and transport services.

John O’Hare-Price an Operations Manager for Anaesthetic, Theatres and Intensive Care at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, with extensive experience in critical care nursing, digital health integration, & clinical technology projects. He has led major initiatives including the upgrade and bi-directional integration of infusion pump systems, the digitalisation of integrated ECG devices, and service improvements in anaesthetics, theatres, and critical care. Currently completing a Master’s in Healthcare Leadership, John combines frontline clinical knowledge with strategic project management skills to drive innovation, improve patient safety, and support the adoption of transformative healthcare technologies.

Medical Device Integration – Electronic Health & Care Record Programme in NI.

Info: As the Senior Project Manager for the encompass Programme, implementing a regional single electronic patient record for every citizen in Northern Ireland. The initial Medical Device Integration Project, his focus was on the integration of medical devices in high-acuity areas such as ICUs & general anaesthetics. Covering 970 patient locations, 23 medical device manufacturers & 17 medical device types. Now embarking on the optimisation phase of the project, which will realise an expansion of medical device integration in terms of functionality, devices, & area. Prior to joining the encompass Programme, Malcolm worked in Clinical Engineering supporting medical devices & informatics systems in critical care. Malcolm holds a Masters in Engineering & is a Member of the Institute of Physics & Engineering in Medicine. In Malcolm’s experience leadership is critical to medical device integration & advocates that, Clinical Engineering must be at the core or integration & healthcare informatics.
