The Medical School’s Paediatric Society, in collaboration with the Communication Office, is organising a guest lecture by paediatrician surgeon Dr Nicos Marathovouniotis.
The lecture will focus on congenital anomalies of the hand and upper limb in children, addressing both the possibilities and limitations of surgical intervention, with emphasis on modern techniques, clinical decision-making, and long-term functional outcomes.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Born in Nicosia, Dr Marathovouniotis completed his medical studies at the University of Freiburg, Germany, earning his Doctorate of Medicine. He trained in general and paediatric surgery in Germany, including advanced fellowship training in paediatric hand surgery.
He spent over two decades at the Children’s Hospital of Cologne, where he served as Senior Consultant and Deputy Chief of Paediatric Surgery and Paediatric Urology.
In 2021, he was appointed Head of the Burn Centre for Children and of the Paediatric Hand Surgery Section, positions he held until his retirement.
Dr Marathovouniotis specialises in Paediatric Hand Surgery, burn care, vascular tumours, vascular malformations, and complex skin disorders in children.
He is a member of several national and European professional societies, including the German Society of Paediatric Surgeons and the European Burn Association, and has authored numerous publications in paediatric surgery and paediatric burn care.
