JARED POPMA & BAND (Folk)
With clever lyrics, thoughtful melodies, and intricate arrangements, Jared Popma brings a warm musical atmosphere that captivates audiences. The Vancouver Island-based guitarist is a singer/songwriter at his core, often compared to artists such as Jack Johnson, though he pulls inspiration from music of all genres and styles.
In 2024, Jared graduated with his Bachelor's in Jazz Studies from Vancouver Island University, and, inspired by the likes of Theo Katzman and Cody Fry, finds great joy in incorporating his background in Jazz and Classical music into his Folk-based arrangements.
Jared has been recording and performing his music independently since 2019, with his first single, How’s The Weather, earning regular airplay on Duncan’s The Zone 91.3. In 2022, he released his EP, Validation, and now in 2025 has produced his first full-length Album, When It Rains, which has been described as “a stunningly crafted folk-inspired record” - Sono, and “a soothing soundscape” - James Kerr, Senocular Media.
Jared has played at festivals such as Cowichan’s Islands Folk Fest, Duncan’s The 39 Days of July, and Victoria’s Winter Arts Festival, and has had the pleasure of opening for Canadian Rock legends, PRISM, at Red Arrow Brewing’s Concert Series.
Jared can also be found across the scene as a hired gun, and regularly playing with various artists, such as two-time Native American Music Awards nominee, Keanu Ienco, and Nanaimo-based Indie-Rock band, Maverick Cinema.
