About this Event
This workshop will introduce participants to the fundamental concepts for creating healthy, fertile compost with UGC's tried and true method of worm composting or vermicomposting.
Participants will work directly with UGC’s Compost Lead to learn the ins and outs of managing a worm composting system. We will begin with a tour and overview of our composting practices on site at South Chicago Farm and our relationship with our partners at the Green Era campus and their anaerobic digester. Participants will learn about the principles that guide successful composting, and then work to build a worm bin that participants can take home with them.
Once completed, participants will be invited to join the UGC compost club, allowing them to drop of house hold compost materials that will go into UGC vermicompost and volunteer to support the maintenance of the system and work towards a passport stamp recognizing their skills and experience.
