About this Event
Each Composition in the Field class begins with a talk with one of our experienced instructors, and then you and your fellow students take a stroll through one of a variety of photogenic locales (in any of the 20+ cities the DPA encapsulates). There is street photography, magnificent interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes, and more, photos of which are included within. These photos are a mix of student and instructor images in many different venues and cities across the United States and Canada.
You will have fun in the three hour session, learn to shoot strategically, get more interesting photos of the event, and walk away with a foundation to improve your photographs in the future, whether you’re traveling, or at a birthday party and everywhere in between.
Venue Description:
Situated along the majestic banks of the Mississippi River, Riverplace and Saint Anthony Main epitomize the charm and vibrancy of Northeast Minneapolis.
Riverplace, an office campus spanning 260,000 square feet, stands as a beacon of modernity. Just across from it lies Saint Anthony Main, a historic area of buildings along Main Street, boasting a rich tapestry of architectural wonders and cultural significance. Here, your Digital Photo Academy instructor will lead you to endless photo ops and offer suggestions on composition strategies that yield portfolio worthy images.
Discover the architectural marvels of Saint Anthony Main, where buildings dating back to the 1850s stand as silent witnesses to the passage of time. Capture the intricate details of the Aster Cafe’s facade, with its ornate windows and weathered brick, by utilizing macro photography to emphasize the texture and character of the architecture. At Water Power Park, take advantage of the stunning views of the Mississippi River and downtown skyline by using the rule of thirds to compose your shots, placing key elements such as the river or bridges along the gridlines to create visually dynamic images.
At Riverplace, marvel at the sleek lines of modern architecture juxtaposed against the natural splendor of the riverfront. Capture the interplay of light and shadow, or seek out reflections that add a touch of magic to your compositions.
Throughout the workshop, your instructor will guide you in mastering the art of composition, empowering you to transform ordinary scenes into extraordinary works of art. Learn to harness the power of techniques like leading lines, rule of thirds, and reflections as you capture the essence of these iconic locales.
