The power of great fiction is that readers have the opportunity to discover new worlds and encounter other beliefs and opinions.
Uncover the rich literary cultures that exist around the Commonwealth with the authors of ‘This is Canon’ Deirdre Osborne and Kadija Sesay. Together, they will highlight a mix of well known and overlooked voices who explore what it is to be human from a wealth of different perspectives.
This event does not include entry to Westminster Abbey. If you would like to visit the Abbey, you can book a ticket via the Abbey website. We recommend that you visit the Abbey before this event to allow yourself time to see as much as possible.
About the speakers
Dr Kadija George (also known as Sesay), FRSA, Hon FRSL, is a literary activist. She is the co/editor of several anthologies including Write Black, Write British and Encounters with Baldwin. She is the founder of the ‘International Black Speculative Writing Festival’, and the ‘AfriPoeTree’ app. She is the co-Director of the Inscribe Writers Development programme for Peepal Tree Press.
Professor Deirdre Osborne FRSL, FRSA, SFHEA has always championed literatures and drama in English/es from around the globe, especially Black British, and Australian First Nations writers. Publications include editor, Cambridge Companion to British Black and Asian Literature (1945-2010) and she is an editor of Women's Writing (Taylor and Francis).
