About this Event
Graft Collective invites you to a collaborative textile workshop hosted by the mega-talented Cúpla Designs and Lucky in Love studios.
Imbolc marks the quiet return of light; the first stirrings of spring beneath the soil. With St. Patrick’s Day ahead, celebrating Ireland in full green bloom, March 10 sits in-between: the point where individual, internal warmth becomes collective, living growth. Through shared making, we will create a clover brooch and discuss how textiles carry memory, landscape, and story. The end result will be a tactile, wearable art form shaped by cloth, thread, and gathered materials.
Inspired by Bring No Clothes by Charlie Porter, we will reflect on the act of making as something more than fashion- as a cultural language rooted in material, labour, and intention. Clothing and adornment are not simply decorative; they are vessels of meaning shaped by hands, histories, and communities. As Porter reminds us, clothing is “a language,” one we learn unconsciously. Design is never neutral. Long before fashion cycles, textile traditions marked seasons, rites of passage, and relationships to land.
In Orlando, Virginia Woolf writes, “There is much to support the view that it is clothes that wear us and not we them.” Woolf herself once had a dress made from green upholstery fabric-“not velvet; nor plush; something betwixt and between.” This gesture was not naïve but deliberate: an exploration of material outside expectation. It reminds us that textiles carry histories beyond their intended use, and that reimagining them is an act of authorship that connects us to one another and to the land.
Through hand sewing and conversation, the brooch becomes a trace of the process itself, a marker of collective care and creativity. Rooted in community and the slow emergence of spring, what we make will be worn close to the body, carrying the warmth of having made it together.
We can’t wait for you to join us.
