About this Event
Description: An in-depth overview of CSEC within the larger legal framework of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act followed by a review of current statistics about CSEC. Next, thetraining discusses myths about involvement in CSEC as well as the demand of CSEC. The training then discusses the pathways and precursors to involvement in CSEC.
Participants will hear case studies of CSEC survivors to highlight the risk factors for CSEC recruitment. Next, the training will provide an overview of the impact of CSEC,specifically looking at the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social impacts of CSEC involvement. Participants will learn about Stockholm Syndrome and trauma bonds and be able to relate these concepts to CSEC victims. This will be followed by an overview of victim identification and engagement. The training will end with a discussion on service delivery. The training will include lecture, large group discussions, video clips, and an excerpt from a book.
Outcome Objectives for Participants:
1) Participants will be able to define CSEC.
2) Participants will be able to identify at least 3 examples of CSEC.
3) Participants will be able to identify at least 2 factors that impact men becoming exploiters.
4) Participants will be able to identify at least 4 risk factors for becoming a CSEC victim.
5) Participants will be able to describe the emotional, spiritual, physical, and socialimpact of CSEC.
6) Participants will be able to list at least 3 needs of youth involved in CSEC.
To be eligible for this training:
Participant must be staff, caregiver or volunteer working directly with foster, adoptive or probation involved children, youth and their families in Alameda, Solano, Mendocino, Lake, Contra Costa, Humboldt, Tuolumne and Calaveras only. ALL participants unless a caregiver/resource family must register with a work email address that can be verified; unless the participant is a caregiver. Participants outside of these areas aren't eligible.
