About this Event
Columbia Arbitration Day (CAD), the flagship annual conference of the Columbia International Arbitration Association (CIAA), is one of the premier international arbitration gatherings in the world. Each year, CAD brings together leading scholars, practitioners, arbitrators, judges, and students from across the globe for thoughtful and forward-looking discussions on the most pressing challenges shaping the international arbitration community.
CAD 2026 promises to be an extraordinary edition.
This year marks a historic milestone: the celebration of 50 years of Professor George A. Bermann at Columbia Law School. Over five decades, Professor Bermann has profoundly shaped the fields of international arbitration and public international law. He has taught and mentored approximately 10,000 students—many of whom now serve as leading practitioners, arbitrators, judges, and scholars worldwide. His scholarship has influenced foundational doctrinal debates, been cited multiple times by the U.S. Supreme Court, and played a central role in the Restatement of the U.S. Law of International Commercial and Investor-State Arbitration. Through his longstanding leadership within the American Arbitration Association, Professor Bermann has consistently bridged academic excellence with arbitral practice.
In honor of his remarkable legacy, CAD 2026 will convene an exceptional group of thought leaders whose work has defined and advanced international arbitration for decades.
Among many other notable speakers, we are pround to anounce:
- Professor Bernard Hanotiau — Hanotiau, Tossens & Goldman and Université catholique de Louvain
- Professor Brigitte Stern — University of Paris I: Panthéon-Sorbonne
- Professor Eduardo Zuleta — Arbitration Chambers and Georgetown Law
- Professor Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler — Lévy Kaufmann-Kohler and CIDS Geneva Center for International Dispute Settlement
Their participation reflects the caliber and global reach of this year’s program.
For decades, CAD has served as a dynamic forum for rigorous exchange and meaningful engagement across generations of arbitration professionals. Join us at Columbia Law School for two days of high-level dialogue, celebration, and community as we honor an extraordinary career and look ahead to the future of global dispute resolution.
