This workshop will give you the tools to apply the many nuances of colour theory within your own work. Colour mixing is rarely taught in a useful fashion beyond the concept of simple primary and secondary colours. Some artists have an innate sense of colour needing little to no instruction. The rest of us, including the workshop facilitator Steve Elkerton, require a little assistance in order to produce the quality of work our imagination warrants.
In the first half of the workshop, participants will be guided through the Quiller Colour Wheel, study examples and explore colour relationships and how they create harmonies and can impact the overall composition of your work.
In the second half, participants will be guided through hands-on exercises, putting theory into practice. Designed for both beginners and professionals, this workshop will guide you through colour theory and will include practical exercises, instruction and hands-on experimentation.
Materials will be available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own paints, brushes and pallets in order to work with and learn from their own supplies.
Facilitated by Steve Elkerton, a London-based visual artist and educator with degrees from Western in Visual Arts and Education. Steve has extensive experience as an instructor of painting and sculpture at H.B. Beal Secondary School in their Special Arts Program. In addition Steve has been painting since 1967, and has his work in numerous private collections as well as at Western University.
