Free. Outdoors. Fresh. | Yerba Buena Gardens FestivalCurated by visionary percussionist Sameer Gupta, this gathering of musicians expands the boundaries of Indian classical music into new and exciting territory. Among the featured performers are sarode master Alam Khan, son of legendary sarode player Ali Akbar Khan, Carnatic vocalist Roopa Mahadevan and Gupta himself, an Indian and Western classically trained percussionist and jazz drummer who co-founded the influential collective Brooklyn Raga Massive. Now back in the Bay Area after more than a decade in New York, Gupta has invited Khan, Mahadevan and his ensemble Jupiter to each present their own set exploring improvisation within the wide-open framework of Hindustani and Carnatic raga music, "which has been translated to mean ‘that which colors the mind,” he says. “Color Your Mind really cuts to the essence of the idea that this is music for anyone and everyone.”
