About this Event
Join us in person for a live Get Me to the Gray conversation presented by COJA at Denver’s Tattered Cover.
Get Me to the Gray is the podcast where we say the things that divide us—and keep talking anyway. For its first live event, host Paula Lehman-Ewing will be joined by former NYPD lieutenant and author Edwin Raymond for an in-depth conversation centered on policing, public safety, and the narratives that shape how these issues are understood.
This discussion will explore tension, disagreement, and complexity without debate or performance, creating space for a more honest public conversation.
Both Paula Lehman-Ewing (Reimagining the Revolution) and Edwin Raymond (An Inconvenient Cop) will be available to sign books following the discussion.
*This is a ticketed event to support attendance and shared accountability. Ticket proceeds will be donated to Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI), a Brooklyn-based organization working in East Flatbush to support young people at high risk of violence and juvenile justice involvement. KAVI’s work focuses on early intervention, mentorship, and community-based prevention—reflecting the spirit of this conversation and the belief that harm is best addressed before it becomes inevitable.
Agenda
🕑: 06:00 PM
Welcome & Introductions
Info: Brief opening remarks and introductions from the host and guest.
Live Conversation
Info: The conversation will begin where many public discussions start: with clear positions, firmly held beliefs, and deeply ingrained assumptions about policing and public safety. From there, it will move into the friction—examining where those positions collide, where they fall short, and where lived experience complicates easy conclusions. The goal is not to blur differences or abandon conviction, but to explore what becomes visible when certainty gives way to curiosity and complexity is allowed to remain intact.
Audience Q&A (time permitting)
Info: A limited number of audience questions may be invited, following the same tone as the conversation: curious, respectful, and non-combative.
🕑: 07:00 PM
Meet & Greet/Book Signing
Info: Following the discussion, attendees are invited to meet the speakers and have books signed.
