About this Event
Join us for a friendly – and intellectually stimulating! – Sunday morning with painter and multimedia artist Wei Yuan, learning all about her day-to-day working methods, her influences and inspirations, and the evolution of her creative practice. Over delicious coffee, tea and pastries!
Yuan will present a detailed insight into the life of a professional artist. Step behind the scenes to understand her work: discover how she prepares her canvases and creates her own paper from scratch; how sketches and experiments develop into finished artworks; and how surprising elements like rhinestones, sand and tape became integral to her practice. The event will be held in our exhibition space, where ‘The Empty Space’, Yuan’s new solo show – her first in the UK – is currently on display, and will take place prior to public opening hours. The presentation will be followed by an open Q&A.
‘The Empty Space’ represents something very special for ArtSpace5-7, as for the artist herself. The most recent (and ambitious!) pieces that make up this extraordinary show were created after Yuan took part in the group exhibition ‘Four Corners of the World’ at ArtSpace5-7 in May 2025. She credits this joint endeavour – a partnership between four of our represented artists – with renewing her creative spark. The result is ‘The Empty Space’, spanning seventeen years of work by a talented, thoughtful and quietly audacious artist.
Born in Zhuzhou, Hunan Province, Yuan completed both her undergraduate and graduate study at the prestigious Beaux-Arts de Paris before moving to Cambridge, where she now lives and practices. You can read Wei Yuan’s bio here, and all about the new exhibition here.
