About The Workshop
Ease into 2026 by connecting to your playfulness in this gentle and joyous Clowning Around afternoon focussing on spontaneity and self-trust
About the workshop
Clowning Around Workshops are back! and beginning the New Year with a workshop to ease you into your playful self. This workshops is for people who want to try out clowning around for the first time and for people who are familiar with clowning and in need of a play top-up.
We will focus on spontaneity and self-trust, which means experimenting with what happens when we let go of making plans and instead show up as we are. So, in this Clowning Around afternoon, we will use movement, games and a variety of hats to encourage you to trust your imagination and impulses. There will also be the opportunity to do a small clowning 'impro' in front of the other people in the workshop if you feel like it.
With a big emphasis on the importance of looking after yourself, I will support you in being guided by your physical and emotional experiences to play as much or as little as you want to. Group size will be limited to twelve to make a comfortable play space.
Who is this workshop for?
Anyone over the age of 18 who wants to give it a go! This could be because you're curious about being creative through clowning around, because you want a chance to be silly, because you want to bring more play into your proffessional work or into your life, because you are a performer who is interested in exploring a different mode for being on stage, etc! There is no previous performance experience required.
I have some spaces available at a reduced rate. If cost is a barrier for you then please contact me via my website (www.clowningaroundworkshops.co.uk/contact-book).
About the facilitator - Iona May-zing (she/her)
I have been learning about Clowning for over ten years and have been faciliating Clowning Around since 2023. I like to provide opportunities for participants to have a go at being themselves, in front of an audience, and without a plan. I am always delighted to see the stories that emerge from playfulness, as if by magic!
Clowning forms a big part of my writing practice too. My poetry collection, 'Breaking Down Loudly' (Verve Poetry Press), uses clowning to talk about grief, family, and friendship and I launched this collection by performing a one-woman show based on my poems.
In another part of her life, I have been a Religious Studies teacher in Primary and Secondary Schools. Here, I learnt alot about playfulness, storytelling and providing a space where people are brave enough to 'give it a go' (and often enjoy themselves in the process!). I am currently building on these skills through completing my Clowning Facilitation Training with Nose-to-Nose.
Clowning has brought me so much joy over the years and has helped me to get to know myself better. I am eager to share this feeling with others.
You can find out a bit more about me and what I do on my website. Here you can see some more specific information about the exact shape of a typical workshop but please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like more details.
