Indiana lineman Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) experiences a close encounter with a UFO, which flies over his truck and leaves him with sunburned skin from its bright lights. Unable to explain the experience, he becomes obsessed with UFOs, to the dismay of his wife Ronne (Teri Garr). Even stranger, he is fixated by the mental image of a flat-topped mountain-like shape — and soon discovers that others he has never met before are as well. A secret branch of the US government explores this, along with other inexplicable events across the country, culminating in a dramatic encounter in Wyoming that will change the world forever.
This screening is held in the Historic Duncan Auditorium. This space utilizes open seating for this event, seat selection is not required.

2024 has been difficult in many ways, not least because of the titans of the silver screen we lost this year. Too many talents who deserve our recognition passed away in 2024 for us to spend the time showcasing them all. But as we move implacably into 2025, we wished to take some time to shine the spotlight on a few whose work has touched us all, and celebrate the memories that we will carry with us always.
