Tim Hoffman is currently Program Director for Climate Initiatives at Columbia Technology Ventures, including the ClimateTech Expertise Network (CEN), NYSERDA Climate Justice Fellows Support Program, and Verizon Climate-related programs. CEN offers mentoring services, including advisory, pitch coaching, grant writing, etc., provides talent matching services to promising climate-tech startups in the State of New York, and supports the NYS ecosystem by facilitating peer groups, educating through Skills Labs and connecting startups with investors and corporate partners. Over the past five and a half years the program has helped over 500 climatetech startups: more than 225 have raised over $1.5 billion in funding; over 150 have entered into pilots and demos; more than 80 have entered into strategic alliance agreements; over 20 C-level candidates have been placed; and 8 startups have exited. The NYSERDA Climate Justice Support Program provides peer group, educational workshops and Skills Labs to support participants in NYSERDA’s workforce development program. His team currently supports the Verizon Climate Resilience prize winners with mentoring and team building services. Also, Tim currently serves as Board member of the NECECi and New York Director of the Cleantech Open Northeast.
As an investment banker for over 22 years, Tim provided strategic and M&A advisory, capital raising, and financial modeling services for large corporations, family-run firms, renewable energy developers, middle market companies and early-stage enterprises. Previously, he served as Co-Chairman of the Cleantech Open Board, participated on the Advisory Board of the Global Sourcing Council. Tim is a graduate of Indiana University, where he earned two B.A. degrees and spent one year studying at Universität Hamburg. He later earned an M.A.E. with a concentration in Finance from the University of Michigan. Tim is fluent in German, proficient in Japanese and learning Korean and Swahili.
