Join us at the Rio Theatre as Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin performs a live score to Dario Argento‘s iconic, “giallo,” the phantasmagoric nightmare of a horror icon SUSPIRIA (“the most terrifying movie ever made!”) alongside a screening of the film. Following the screening there will be a 45 minute “Best Of” add-on performance.Composer Claudio Simonetti has written, recorded and performed some of the most influential scores and soundtracks in horror, including DAWN OF THE DEAD, DEEP RED / PROFONDO ROSSO, DEMONS, TENEBRE and many others, with his seminal work and legendary style still informing the genre to this day. This year, Simonetti’s Goblin celebrates Argento’s SUSPIRIA by performing Goblin’s iconic score to a special screening of the film. Almost five decades after its release, both SUSPIRIA and Goblin’s unforgettable score remain the stuff of legend, having aid the framework for a myriad of horror scores to come.
This genre-defining cult-classic has been lovingly restored and remastered in glorious 4K – the film’s bizarre colour schemes come alive in a whole new way. Buoyed by Goblin’s phenomenal soundtrack, SUSPIRIA is “nightmare fuel” for the senses – and can only be truly enjoyed on the big screen… If you dare!
Suzy (Jessica Harper) travels to Germany to attend ballet school. When she arrives, late on a stormy night, no one lets her in, and she sees Pat (Eva Axén), another student, fleeing from the school. When Pat reaches her apartment, she is murdered. The next day, Suzy is admitted to her new school, but has a difficult time settling in. She hears noises, and often feels ill. As more people die, Suzy uncovers the terrifying secret history of the place…
