About this Event
TERRA MATER explores the enduring figure of the sacred feminine as protector, guide and source of life. Drawing on sacred traditions across cultures, the performance centres themes of earth, birth and transmission, reflecting on the maternal figure as both a spiritual and human presence.
Through a curated selection of traditional repertoire and contemporary works, Les Itinérantes create a dialogue between eras and cultures. Featuring music inspired by the medieval visionary Hildegard von Bingen alongside composers such as Farnaz Modarresifar and texts by 19th-century Syrian poet Mariana Marrache. Blending influences from folk, chanson and early music, the trio craft performances that are intimate and expansive, inviting audiences into a journey through voice, story and sound.
Les Itinérantes - Manon, Pauline and Elodie - are celebrated for their ethereal, haunting vocal blend, performing in over fifty languages, from ancient dialects to newly imagined tongues. Rejecting the traditional concert format, they move through the performance space as they sing, surrounding audiences in an immersive and atmospheric soundworld.
This is an 800-year-old building and it is often colder inside than outside. Seating is in historic, fixed box pews and is unreserved, with variable sightlines - you may be asked to share a pew.
There is one toilet on site, primarily for staff. If needed, please speak to a steward.
