Beginner Guitar: Folk to Rock.
(Starts Wednesday, April 1 for six weeks 6 PM to 7 PM )
Discover the joy of making music in this fun, welcoming beginner guitar class taught by Tracy Kim.
Whether you’ve never picked up a guitar or you’re dusting one off after years away, this course gives you the foundation you need to start playing real songs right away.
What You’ll Learn
Over six weeks, you’ll build solid skills step by step:
Guitar Basics:
• How the guitar works
• Tuning by ear and with a digital tuner (or app)
• Proper posture and hand position• Using a pick AND fingerpicking
• Using a capo
• Understanding and How to Read TABS
• How to Read Chord Diagrams
Chords & Smooth Transitions:
You’ll learn your first chords in the very first classes.
Tracy emphasizes:• Clear, comfortable fingerings
• How to switch between chords easily
• Practice techniques that make learning faster and more fun
• Lots of fun song examples
Strumming Techniques:
From simple down‑strums to the rhythmic patterns used in your favorite songs, you’ll explore:
• Beginner strumming patterns
• More advanced grooves as you progress
• Songs to practice each technique
Fingerpicking:
You’ll also get an introduction to classic fingerpicking styles through songs like:
• Blackbird
• Landslide
• Dust in the Wind
Songs You’ll Play:
By the end of the course, you’ll be strumming (and singing, if you like) songs from artists such as:
• The Beatles
• Van Morrison
• Bob Dylan
• Green Day
•Tom Petty
•John Mayer
•also we will learn some popular classic rock riffs!…and other fun and popular songs and artists across the folk‑to‑rock spectrum.
