*places are limited in the hall - as we will be singing in circle, so please book your ticket to avoid disappointment* - we are now very nearly sold out!
Going forward the choir will have both reductions for committed half termly bookers, and a weekly drop-in rate.
Circle of Song is a partnership project between Moor Imagination Collective and experienced local choir leader Fran André (Soul of the City Gospel Choir, Jubilation Choir, Dartington Monday Fun Choir).
Expect riotously fun joyful singing in harmony, accompanied by pockets of heartful soothing singing to take us into the darker months with a good dose of community heart medicine. Fran has a particular love of music of the African diaspora, including West and South African songs and also gospel. She will also bring a variety of folk styles from different traditions around the world, including homegrown talented folk song creators from these isles.
Singing together is our birthright! We at the MIC feel passionately about the power of group singing as a way for us to feel the palpable nourishment of community connection. Creating harmony together with our voices, gives us a felt sense way in to creating harmony in our lives and worlds.
All are welcome - you do not need any previous singing experience. As the Zimbabwean proverb goes 'if you can walk, you can dance, if you can talk, you can sing'! All songs will be taught by ear in a gentle, inclusive, encouraging atmosphere.
The energy exchange will be £10 (standard rate) / £8 (reduced rate). Young people 10+ who will find it easy to be engaged in the singing are very welcome, and can come for £6.
Very important to us is that we are aiming to build a true community where all of us are welcome and can access the choir. There is a delicate balance to be struck between making sure community singing is valued financially, and making the choir accessible to those who have limited financial means for whatever reason.
We are committed to no-one being turned away due to lack of funds. If you are not able to pay either of the prices above, please contact Fran on [email protected] to let us know what level might work for you. We currently have a number of spaces reserved as pay-what-you-can spaces to help those who may need it.
We look forward to singing with you and please spread the word!
