Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna invites you to take a behind-the-scenes tour at its latest restoration project: the Church of Saint Barbara in Valletta. In collaboration with the Archdiocese of Malta, FWA is bringing to light the rich history of this church. It was first built in the 16th century and owned by the Confraternity of Bombardiers who, under the patronage of St Barbara, operated cannon on fortifications and vessels of the Knights of St John. Eventually, it was rebuilt in the baroque style with a design by Romano Carapecchia, a project completed in 1740 after his death.
You can join our special tour to learn more about the church, the bombardiers, the Langue of Provence, the French fleet in Malta during WW1, and many more stories unfolding as the project develops.
The tour is free of charge for Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna members and children under 16 years. Standard tickets are €10 for Adults (16+) and may be purchased online. Members must book their place by sending an email to [email protected]
The tour starts at 19:00.
