Christmas Gala Concert supporting Gen.Ukrainian, aiding the mental rehabilitation of children affected by the war in Ukraine
About this Event

We warmly invite you to a very special occasion: a Christmas Gala Concert of classical music in support of Gen.Ukrainian, a Ukrainian public organisation devoted to the mental rehabilitation of children affected by Russian armed aggression against Ukraine. You will have the opportunity to experience the magic of music performed by extraordinary musicians and support the charitable mission of this event during the enchanting season leading up to Christmas.


The event will be held in the elegant Ballroom at the Lansdowne Club, featuring an evening programme that includes a welcome drinks reception, a classical music performance, and a charity auction.


Musical Programme

The evening will feature a carefully curated selection of classical works, including:

  • Schubert: Fantasie in F minor
  • Kovács: Tribute to J. S. Bach
  • Debussy: Images Book II - No. 1 - Cloches à travers les feuilles; No. 3 - Poissons d’or
  • Lyatoshynsky: Melody
  • Lysenko: Oh don't shine dear moon
  • Charpentier: Depuis le jour
  • Dvořák: Song to the Moon from the opera «Rusalka»
  • Leontovych: Carol of the Bells (Shchedryk)


Musical pieces will be performed by highly accomplished professionals, laureates of international competitions:

  • Sasha Grynyuk and Alexei Grynyuk (Piano duo)
  • Oksana Sliubyk (soprano)
  • Maya Irgalina (piano)
  • Stefan Bulyha (clarinet)
  • Svitlana Shamina (piano)

About the Performers:


  • Sasha Grynyuk: British-Ukrainian pianist Sasha Grynyuk, a winner of numerous competitions, prizes and awards, Sasha was chosen as a ‘Rising Star’ for BBC Music Magazine and International Piano Magazine. His successes also include First Prizes in the Grieg International Piano Competition and the BNDES International Piano Competition, in addition to winning the Guildhall School of Music’s most prestigious award – the Gold Medal. Sasha has performed around the world in major venues including Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Wiener Konzerthaus, Weil Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall, New York), Teatro Real (Rio de Janeiro). He has performed with such orchestras as the Royal Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic, Orchestra Sinfonica Brasiliera, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. His album of music by Glenn Gould and Friedrich Gulda for Piano Classics was chosen as the record of the month for the German magazine Piano News and shortlisted for the New York Classical Radio.


  • Alexei Grynyuk: British-Ukrainian pianist Alexei Grynyuk performs internationally, appearing in the most prestigious concert halls and music festivals. He has given recitals at the Verbier Music Festival in Switzerland, Newport Music Festival in USA, Duszniki Chopin Festival in Poland, International Keyboard Festival in New York among many others. The venues include Wigmore Hall and the South Bank Centre in London, Salle Cortot and Salle Gaveau in Paris, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He has gone on to win many prizes, notably first prizes at the Horowitz International Piano Competition in Kyiv, Shanghai International Piano Competition in China.


  • Maya Irgalina: London-based pianist Maya Irgalina performs internationally with the UK highlights including Barbican, Wigmore Hall, Machynlleth Festival, Oscar Wilde Weekend, and Cheltenham Jazz Festival. Maya’s recent appearances include the Oxford Festival of Arts together with soprano Nicola Said, performances at Piano Week Festival in Rugby, UK, and in Quimper, France premiering the theatrical recital Who Does She Think She Is? together with mezzo-soprano Veronica Chacon. As a soloist, she has played with orchestras including City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, RNCM Symphony Orchestra, Batumi Symphony Orchestra and others. She regularly performs with such singers as Fleur Barron, Ruby Philogene and Nicola Said; she has received The Paul Hamburger Prize from Graham Johnson and is an alumna of Franz Schubert Institute in Baden bei Wien, Austria.


  • Oksana Sliubyk: Born in Ukraine and based in the United Kingdom, Oksana Sliubyk performed at the International Opera Awards gala ceremony in London in 2015 and was featured in the Opera Now Magazine on two occasions. Since 2016, she performed with I Virtuosi Ambulanti in Germany, Northern Ireland Opera in the UK, has participated in many prestigious international festivals and young artist programs such as Prelude to Performance and Miami Music Festival in the US, Casalmaggiore International Music Festival and Livorno Music Festival in Italy, attended various master classes studying with Sumi Jo, Ailyn Perez, Thomas Hampson, Kamal Khan, Jake Heggie, Graham Johnson, Martin Katz, Edith Wiens, Benjamin Luxon and many more. She has also made her TV debut with an opera diva cameo appearance in a popular British TV series. Oksana became an Opera for Peace artist supported by the Opera Europa in 2023 and has recently won a prize in the Southbank Sinfonia Peter Hulsen Orchestral Song Award competition.


  • Stefan Bulyha: Stefan is a Ukrainian clarinetist and member of YsOU / Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine and Tsinandali Festival Youth Orchestra. He has performed on stage with renowned conductors such as Oksana Lyniv, Charles Dutoit, Vasiliy Petrenko, Derrick Inouye, Claudio Vandelli, and Vitaliy Protasov. Stefan has also been awarded a scholarship by the Hattori Foundation and the Drake Calleja Trust.


  • Svitlana Shamina: Born in Ukraine, Svitlana Shamina is an international pianist and collaborative artist. After obtaining a Master’s degree with honours from the Lviv Music Academy, Svitlana continued her solo career in Italy, where she became a laureate of the prestigious “Giovani Musicisti” piano competition in Venice, as well as other competitions and festivals, both as a soloist and collaborative artist. Svitlana performs not only as a pianist but also as an organist. Her musical journey has taken her to concert venues in Ukraine, Italy, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and the United Kingdom. In 2022, she performed live on Times Radio London


About Gen.Ukrainian is a non-governmental organisation that specialises in issues of childhood during the war and mental rehabilitation of children and adolescents who have experienced psychological trauma as a result of war, such as loss of parents, captivity or forced displacement. Gen.Ukrainian organise psychological intensives, develop innovative rehabilitation programs and conduct active scientific work. Its goal is to assess the needs for psychological, social and educational rehabilitation of children whose childhood was affected by the war, to form and spread effective approaches to support and rehabilitation in order to comprehensively minimise the consequences of the war for the children of Ukraine.



Dress code:

Smart-casual dress code with collared shirt and jacket for men and suitable equivalent for women. Guests may not wear sportswear, vest tops, leggings (including jeggings), baseball caps, casual zipped or leather jackets, sweatshirts, or fleeces


Children:
