Ambient Dream-Folk songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist Chris Cleverley returns to Uxbridge this April, as part of his magical ‘Nine Vernal Evenings’ UK Tour. Since the release of his critically acclaimed album ‘Broadcast The Secret Verse’ in 2022 ("Frighteningly brilliant works" Daily Star), Cleverley has been steadily growing his reputation as a cutting-edge songwriter and fingerstyle guitar master, with appearances at top UK acoustic events like Cambridge Folk Festival and the English Folk Expo, twice earning him FATEA Magazine’s ‘Male Artist of the Year’ award.
As the wheel of the year spins round, he embarks on a mystical, musical journey across the UK, taking him from the lush, verdant awakening at Beltane, through to the honeysuckle mysticism of Midsummer.
“It’s my mission with these nine special evenings, to try and soothe some of the frayed edges of this fractured modern world we live in. Overload, overstimulation, digital burnout, the weight of the newscycle; we all know these feelings. It’s important to not shy away, but at the same time we must try to find the calm within it, to centre ourselves, and restore our grounding. In these hazy, candlelit rooms together, with this shared purpose - our love of nature, soothing ambient sound, the power of the breath - it’s my hope we can tap into a brief but powerful window of balance as Springtime is coming on.”
This one-man live show cements his reputation as a true guitar-man. His lighting fast speed and ambient soundscapes invoke fingerstyle legends John Martyn, Bert Jansch & Nic Jones, with visceral lyrics inspired by Lo-fi American Greats, Elliott Smith & Sufjan Stevens.
With replenishing calm and warm humour, his performances occupy the space between concert and yoga nidra meditation. As restorative as the floral aromas of the ancient bluebell wood, Cleverley pledges to leave audiences feeling that little bit more wholesome than when they arrived.
