THE CHORLTON PLAYERS CALL TO OPEN AUDITIONS for BLUE STOCKINGS a play by Jessica Swale
We are looking for people of varying ages to join us in this large cast production. No experience necessary, all welcome. You must be available to rehearse Monday and Wednesday evenings throughout April and May, with show dates 4th to 6th June 2026
*Dedicated to women and girls around the world who are still denied an education*
Set in 1897 at Girton College, Cambridge, Blue Stockings follows four pioneering young women as they fight for the right to graduate. Despite matching their male peers academically and intellectually, they face intense misogyny, being branded "blue stockings," unnatural and unmarriageable intellectuals.
The play explores women’s right to education, against a backdrop of institutional and societal opposition, navigating societal exclusion and violent riots. Come and join us as we witness a turning point in history, celebrating the courage of women who defied Victorian norms to secure a future for female education.
