Choral Evensong for AdventSunday, December 7 at 4 p.m.
sung by the Cathedral Choir
Advent is a season of waiting and preparation, anticipating the annual celebration of Christmas and – in a greater sense – Christ’s second coming at the end of time. Amid the bustle of our own seasonal preparations, we invite you to this service of stillness and serenity. The Cathedral Choir offers music from the English Tudor period which witnessed a flowering of beautiful choral music at the beginning of Anglicanism from which St. James Cathedral draws its lineage. A particular highlight of this service is Robert Parsons’ iconic anthem “Ave Maria,” a masterpiece of a capella choral repertoire.
Choral repertoire:
Ravenscroft - Remember, O thou man
Smith - Preces & Responses (5 voices)
Tomkins - Fifth Service
Parsons - Ave Maria
A festive reception will follow in Kyle’s Place.
