About this Event

In the Northern Hemisphere, the Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year, usually falling around December 20th.
Join us on December 7th to learn how the ancient world celebrated the Winter Solstice, with a focus on the Iranian holiday of Shabe Yalda.
We’ll hear from scholars on how people survived long winters and periods of darkness, read stories about Shabe Yalda, and most importantly, be surrounded by each other’s warmth and company.
Event Timing: December 7, 3:00pm-4:00pm CT
Event Address: Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures Museum (1155 E 58th St. Chicago, IL 60637)
Contact Information: [email protected] (914-907-5752)
Participation is $15 per family and can be paid in advance with a credit card or in person with cash. Please have exact change. Children will receive a surprise souvenir upon joining (while supplies last).
Organized by the UChicago Lab School Iranian Families & Friends and the ISAC Museum
