The 'CHILL ROOM' concept refers back to the golden age of rave and underground parties in the 90's, where an alternate side room would often be available to escape the pounding dance music. Downtempo, trip hop, and ambient sounds were the soundtrack inside, allowing for a mental and physical recharge. This concept seems to be almost lost with modern dance and party culture, and we aim to bring it back. Hosted by underground veteran Striz, the first installment features 2 downtempo selectors who have been keeping that scene alive since the golden age. Recharge your week :)SEAN OWENS
A seeker of sound, a traveler through realms of rhythm and vibration. His journey began in the shadow of the great city, where the winds of possibility blew through every alley and underground venue, whispering to him the ancient call of music.
His path was deeper. He saw that the dance of frequencies could reveal the hidden patterns of the universe itself, could carry the soul of a city, a culture, and the collective spirit of all who gathered to listen.

STRIZ
One of the windy city’s most versatile DJs, Striz has developed a reputation for funking up any environment with his unique blend of downtempo, hip hop, broken beat, and house. Mixing broken polyrhythms, live instrumentation and a heavy dose of funk, his genre-defying DJ sets showcase the organic side of electronic music. Starting out in 1996, Striz developed his crowd rocking abilities at college house parties playing golden age hip hop. After moving back to sweet home Chicago in 2000, he co-founded illmeasures, a collective of DJs, producers, and designers that have been keeping the local underground scene alive through club nights and legendary large-scale loft and warehouse parties. Living in Madrid and his three-year employment at Groove Distribution (a jazzy underground record importer) opened his ears to new styles of electronic music from around the world and expanded his music collection to encompass a multitude of tempos and moods. Fast forward to 2006 when he co-founded The Freakeasy, a series of burner-oriented underground gatherings that became the hottest ticket in town over their unprecedented 10 year run.
Striz has been chosen to perform alongside numerous international talents including Tricky, Jazzanova, DJ Krush, Nicolas Jaar, Jamie **, Four Tet, Amon Tobin, Bonobo, James Murphy, DJ Food, Metro Area, Nickodemus, The Herbaliser, Quantic, and many others of myriad disciplines. He and fellow illmeasures founder Justin Reed were honored to warm up the historic Kennedy Center in Washington DC in 2017 for a once in a lifetime show featuring Thievery Corporation performing live with a 22 piece orchestra, and he also supported the band at their most recent Chicago appearance.
