This is a scenic linear hike passing us through the beautiful Kent countryside, an area of outstanding natural beauty, with stunning views across the Stour valley, starting start from picturesque Chilham, renowed for its beauty and charm and finishing in medieval Canterbury where we will visit the famous Christmas market!
Kent is also known as "Garden of England" for its abundance of orchards and hop gardens.
We start with a detour to Chilham castle, a 17th century manor house built on the site of an ancient Castle. We then follow the Stour Valley passing through beautiful woods and farms before crossing the river and find ourselves hiking on scenic North Downs Way. Finally we reach the cathedral city of Canterbury UNESCO that lies on Stour river. Canterbury Cathedral, built on 597, was one of the most important centres of pilgrimage in Medieval England. The pilgrims followed the historic "Pilgrims Way" route from Winchester to the shrine of Thomas Becket at Canterbury.
In medieval Canterbury we finish our beautiful hike visiting its famous Christmas market. For the first time in 150 years part of the market will be hosted inside the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral as well as across the medieval centre! We will wander around the market serving ourselves mulled wine, drinks and treats before taking the train back to London! Feel free to join us!
