Meet other expectant parents and get your questions answered by an experienced midwife/lactation consultant. Take this class anytime during the second half of pregnancy, but ideally classes should be completed by 36 weeks of pregnancy.
Class topics include:
- Anatomy of pregnancy and birth
- Preparing for labor
- When to come to the hospital, and what to expect when you arrive
- Stages of labor and birth
- Medical interventions that you may be offered
- Discussing options with your healthcare team
- Comfort and relaxation techniques for prenancy, labor, and parenthood
- Benefits and side effects of pain medications
- How your partner/support person can help
- Challenges, complications, and unexpected outcomes
- Vaginal birth, cesarean birth
- Postpartum recovery
- Newborn care
- Breastfeeding
- Newborn behavior and communication
- Ways to support your baby’s physical, social, and emotional development
- Sleep safety
- Referral to a Car Seat Clinic
- Mental health of new parents
- Easing the transition to parenthood
- Connecting new families with community resources
- Other topics of interest, determined by class participants
